LGBTQIA2S+ Adventures

OUT in the Wild offers technical skills courses to the LGBTQIA2S+ community in rock climbing and backpacking. Through offering adventure based experiences within affinity spaces, we hope to inspire our community to feel comfortable and confident in wild spaces, to learn the skills necessary to succeed in the outdoors and to promote diversity and inclusion in this industry by increasing visibility.

Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Council (J.E.D.I.)

We are a group of community members and staff that join together monthly to discuss and plan positive change within our 4 climbing facilities. We outline steps together to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment as well as create better access to climbing for those that otherwise would not be able to access the sport.

Our mission is to connect and empower women and nonbinary folx who feel comfortable in spaces that center the experiences of women. We are dedicated to breaking down barriers, like accessibility, opportunity, and cost. We host free meetups in gyms and crags around the country, and lead super low-cost climbing trips. Through fundraising, we offer scholarships, events, and course opportunities for women as well. We are hoping to add a program dedicated to giving access to climbing for young girls in inner cities.

Spirit of Alpinism Scholarship

This is an annual scholarship designed to provide financial support for Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color to take the next step in advancing their technical backcountry and mountain leadership skills by participating in one or more of the American Alpine Institute's programs. More information is available on our website. Eligibility: -Self-identified as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color including Latinx, Asian, and mixed race -18 years of age or older -Meet or exceed the listed prerequisites (on the website) for the requested program(s) Applications are due in October, and recipient(s) are notified in December.

Summer camps for kids - day camps and overnight camps

Avid4 Adventure empowers kids to choose active and healthy lifestyles in the outdoors. We run outdoor adventure summer camps - day camps, resident camps, and expedition camping programs. We run those in 8 states - Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Maine.

We are a community of LGBTQ+ adventurists changing the face of the outdoors for queer people through our trips, festivals and advocacy.

501c3 non profit program that increases access to the sport of climbing for people with disabilities.

Latino Outdoors is a community first and an organization second. We are a community that strives for an outdoors that is safe and welcoming for all people, regardless of race, creed, nationality, language, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. We are a community that celebrates diverse forms of outdoor engagement. We are a community that believes meaningful outdoor experiences make us stronger, healthier, and happier. Latino Outdoors provides for a focused conversation on the Latinx experience without being limited to it. Our community’s voices are varied while remaining united in celebrating diversity and declaring it a core tenet of Latino Outdoors.

Our mission is to become involved in the community by creating events for ladies (trans and cis), non-binary, two-spirit and friends, stewardship through clean ups at local and national parks, highlighting climbers on our social media platforms, and partnering with brands and organizations for events, fundraisers, raffles, and giveaways.

This organization is aimed at supporting women (cis+non-cis), GNC and non binary folks within the climbing community. All of our outdoor clinics are based on percentages of the standard rate of each clinic so as to make these more accessible. Additionally we provide grants for people to attend nutrition workshops and coaching opportunities.

The Venture Out Project (TVOP) envisions a world where queer, trans, and LGBTQ+ youth and adults create community, develop leadership skills, and gain confidence through the shared experience of outdoor adventure and physical activity. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced adventurer, we have something for everyone. Our trips are run by queer people for queer people, all across the United States. TVOP offers these experiences through both backcountry and frontcountry events. Backcountry events are those that take place in wilderness settings. Of these, we offer both overnight and day adventures. Our overnight adventures include backpacking, canoe camping, rafting, and much more! Similarly, our day adventures also offer a diversity of experiences, such as queer day hikes, indoor rock climbing, skiing, and snowshoeing. Frontcountry events are new to TVOP in 2022, and take place solely at our Basecamp at Beaver Falls (BCBF) location, which resides on the ancestral lands of the Elnu Abenaki People, past and present. These are a great option for folks who prefer warm beds, stocked kitchens, and relative closeness to flushable toilets. Our frontcountry events focus on community and skill-building outside of backcountry settings.

Travel Hiking and Outdoor Adventures

Destination Hike is outdoor recreation organization with a primary focus on local and travel hiking and camping. Additional activities include: backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, trap and skeet shooting, and yoga. The various activities offered consider all backgrounds and experiences in outdoor recreation and the level of each activity is indicated on the event registration. We are located in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area, however, you do not have to be a resident of the DMV to participate in our travel hiking expeditions or local events.

Triangle Pride Climbing Club

Triangle Pride Climbing Club seeks to further sexual orientation and gender identity diversity within the RDU-area climbing community through weekly group climbs (in COVID-free times), social events, and outdoor adventures. Brown Girls Climb is a small Women of Color owned and operated company with the mission to promote and increase visibility of diversity in climbing by establishing a community of climbers of color, encouraging leadership opportunities for self-identified women climbers of color, and by creating inclusive opportunities to climb and explore for under represented communities. (Mission statement is currently being updated**) Our efforts and services inclue memberships, inclusive event planning, and the BGC Marketplace

Disabled Hikers is building disability community and justice in the outdoors towards a vision of an outdoors culture transformed by accessibility, representation, and justice. Disabled Hikers is an entirely disability-led organization working towards building disabled leadership in the outdoors. We have established guidelines for accessible information, write trail guides, host group hikes and events, provide consultations, and elevate the multiplicity of disabled experiences in the outdoors.

New River George Diversity in Guiding Grant

The New River Alliance Coalition (NRAC) is providing two $1200 grants to help BIPOC individuals become AMGA certified guides. Grant funding will cover a travel/food stipend, course and testing fees, and a small gear stipend. Applicants must reside in one of the following: PA, MD, OH, WV, VA, DC, NC, KY, TN, SC. Applicants that frequently climb at the New River Gorge preferred.

Equitable rock climbing experiences and opportunities

Creating UK based equitable climbing experience and opportunities. Initially these will be aimed at climbers of colour. These will be predominantly be outdoor Rock Climbing experiences, with optional pathways into Rock Climbing qualifications. We are planning to offer a wider range of equitable experience and opportunities within climbing, for a broader range of underrepresented and underserved communities in the near future. We are currently working with our community partners in the development of these courses.

Making Adventures Possible for All Students

Working to increase accessibility and inclusivity at UC Santa Barbara. Our goal is to start this initiative at other universities and college institutions in the future. We host events like hiking, camping, climbing, kayaking, and more. We also work to provide scholarships and grants for individuals to pursue field work and outdoor leadership opportunities.

Our mission is simple: We are in business to empower indigenous communities through our products and storytelling for a sustainable world.

Catalyst Grant

The American Alpine Club (AAC) is committed to helping the climbing community become universally accessible to everyone. Introducing Catalyst: Adventure Grants for Change. This grant will provide BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with both seen and unseen disabilities the funds to help them overcome barriers, adapt to disabilities, and reach ambitious climbing goals. The Catalyst Grant will award over $20,000 to individuals and teams who face barriers in accessing the climbing community and identify with an underrepresented group.

Peak Performance Grant

There is great potential for positive life-changing experiences, character building and self-esteem development for youth through rock climbing and other outdoor adventure activities. Involvement in physical activities, like climbing, promotes a healthy lifestyle and improves fitness in a supportive environment. These valuable benefits should be accessible to all children. Urban Peaks is focused on fulfilling this mission by providing climbing and adventure sports programming to New England-based organizations serving underrepresented youth, including schools, day camps, and mental health intervention services. Urban Peaks partners with local organizations to provide access to activities, facilities and trained staff, as well as program cost assistance.

Climbing with the rural community

This is a social program in Ecuador. We are looking for a grant to develop our project. We want to empower local with climbing. If a organization doesn´t do this, the rural communities of Ecuador can´t have any access to climbing, we want to help them to discover this amazing world. Disabled & Outdoors

We are an online community dedicated to amplifying Disabled voices in the outdoor collective and industry. We believe that representation matters, and that for too long, Disabled individuals have been left out of the “Outdoor Enthusiast” conversation. Through our Instagram platform we highlight and amplify other individuals in our community, connect to outdoor brands looking to help with our mission, and raise awareness to accessible programs all over the world.
